Felice Dahl Design Blog Introduction
Hi everyone! I’m Stephanie Felice Dahl, a jewellery designer and interior decorator, and I’ve decided to start a blog. I hope it will act as a way for me to better share my inspirations, to start conversations, as well as to help us all to consider design in another way.
I thought I’d first address the topic of Taste. Having lived in the UK, USA, France and Sweden, I have been lucky enough to experience how different cultures express themselves, experiencing and hearing about what they consider to be beautiful.
Many people have very strong opinions on what they believe to be “beautiful” or “ugly”. From personal observation , I know that what one might dislike, a whole culture might just adore. I think to be able to appreciate design, it’s essential to try to remain as open-minded as possible, exposing oneself to works from all the corners of the world. Having studied Art History, I know that by spending time examining and pondering art, we can come to appreciate, or perhaps better understand, a work. We, by no means, are obliged to change our tastes because we are confronted with another style, however, sometimes we’ll notice elements within that style, or artistic process, which we actually do appreciate.
I’ve always known Scandinavian mid-century modern, as my lovely Swedish grandparents’ house was decorated during that period, and, to this day, contains designs by Arne Jacobsen, Poulsen, and Bruno Mathesson. I’ve also become very fond of my mother’s mix of European antiques, British fabrics and Asian details. Country living (across Sweden, England and France) is a recent intrigue.
