5 Ways to do Swedish Country Style Wallpaper
Swedish country homes are often synonymous with wallpaper. But what makes the wallpaper feel “country” and how do Swedes select these prints? Here are a few tips on how to select your wallpaper, to give it that Swedish Country Style look.
1. Blue is a safe choice
Blue tones in Swedish homes are quite traditional, so putting them into a traditional space like a country home is only natural! It’s also a very calming colour, so it’s a great way to create a relaxing space, without being overpowering, or without having to go into minimalist territory.
2. Pair it with white panelling
Traditional country homes often feature panelling. Using wallpaper above panelling is a great way to inject colour and pattern without having to do up every inch of the room. The panelling also breaks up the pattern, giving your eye a rest.
3. Go for natural flora or fauna patterns
Swedish design is heavily influenced by nature, as is their choice of wallpaper! Wallpaper in a flora or fauna print is an easy way to bring the outdoors in - which is especially nice during the barren Scandinavian winter months.
4. Choose a muted colour palette
By selecting a muted colour palette for your wallpaper, it allows it to sit backstage to your furniture and decorations. Typically, Swedes also tend to select colours with a lot of grey in it (muted tones), mimicking their own outdoors.
5. Choose a small scale print
A small scale wallpaper print adds texture and depth to a room, without being the focus of attention. A large scale print would become bold, and attention grabbing.
