Scandi Christmas Decoration Essentials

Hoping to Scandi-fy your Christmas this year? Here are a few key decorations that appear in Swedish homes during the festive period, year after year. Why not incorporate these in your home too?

Window Starlight

These electrical starlights are hung in windows all over the house. It is such a cosy feeling to come home from the cold, to be welcomed by a glowing home! A paper star lampshade, and ceiling socket or extra long extension cord are needed for this. Another alternative is a similar star shape, made of paper, just hung as a decoration on a wall, or over a cabinet handle.

Simple Evergreen Wreath

Creating a minimalist evergreen wreath is really easy to do at home, and can hang just about anywhere in our outside your home. It’s so festive, fragrant, and will last you through until the end of winter.

Potted Evergreen Plants

Who wouldn’t want more Christmas trees at home? The nice thing about these small potted versions, are that they will last you throughout the winter, if not longer! It’s a lovely and fragrant way to bring in more nature to your home during the cold seasons. You can store them outdoors for the rest of the year if you’d like.

Festive Figurines

In Sweden these small ceramic festive figurines are traditional. They often look like Tomten (Swedish Santa) or children dressed up for the Lucia festival of light (as below). Sometime they’re candleholders, sometimes just decorative mini statues. Scatter them on side tables, or above the fireplace.

Hyacinth Bulbs

These bulbs vases are traditional in Sweden, welcoming new life into the world, even in the thick of winter. It’s a sign of hope, and lovely to watch grow at home. Place them at the centre of your table instead of bouquets, or at windowsills.

Window Candles

Swedes are all about cosy lighting, and all about advent candles. These window candles do both! Electric candles in this traditional pyramid format, with 5 candles, can be seen across the country lighting up windows, creating a super cosy atmosphere, and lighting your way home.
