A Case for Portraiture in the Home

To me, details make a space come alive. A classic, and sometimes even quirky, way to pack in personality at home is with a portrait painting. Do you know them? Don’t you know them? Either way, suddenly your space can feel more regal, coastal, or bohemian, depending on what you choose.

Unless you have family heirlooms readily available, good places to search for portraiture are in flea markets or second-hand shops. You never know who you’ll find - they might just be the next person to grace your shelf! And they’ll cost a lot less there, than if you search in the lovely, but oh-so-chic, antique boutiques.

Places to consider hanging your portraits (self- or otherwise!): on the mantel piece or in the bookshelf (standard), in downstairs loo (hello!), as part of a gallery wall, or even in your kitchen (gutsy! and potentially very classical).
